Though now when I've got a good view of what's going on there, I let sleeping dogs lie after that. When I swap a component out, sure, I'll check the new kit is working as intended, and if I swap my PC case I'll keep an eye on temperatures. Nowadays, I tend to monitor my PC a little less. I used to be really obsessed with checking my temperatures and fan speeds, like annoyingly into it, and while I'm sure not everyone is going to want to to check their PC temps mid-game, I sure did. J3160 feels a little warmer on the outside, but in the 45-48 degree celsius range (CPU temp). Now onto my second recommendation: maybe you don't always need to keep an eye on your PC's every electrical action. This is the preferred means of running pfSense software. HWMonitor is fast, simple, logs all the information you could need out of it, and keeps track of every PC vital stat you could reasonably be after. While it's effectively more of the same by way of monitoring, the handy GPU overclocking tools and live graph presentation really aid in easily understanding the monitoring data presented to you over time. I'd also like to give an honourable mention to the old hand that is MSI's Afterburner software. The built-in tools Performance tab offers a lot of data nowadays without the need for any third-party tools, and it'll even report your graphics card's temperature. Adding case fans can also help, though as some other users have explained, some cases just don't have good airflow and, therefore, have bad thermal performance in general.Another system monitoring tool worth mentioning, and in keeping with the spirit of minimal fuss, is Windows' own Task Manager. I had this problem with a custom loop CPU block that I hadn't done proper research for compatibility with my motherboard. Ensure the CPU cooler is fully seated and actually making contact with the CPU itself and not being blocked by VRMs. Check (and then usually reapply) the thermal paste. HWMonitor for Windows on x86 is a hardware monitoring program that reads PC systems main health sensors : voltages, temperatures, powers, currents, fans speed, utilizations, clock speeds. That being said, the things you mentioned to check are still the best things to check. There would have to be some decently comprehensive malfuntions, particularly in the motherboard, for there to be major damage to a component from heat. I mean, generally the components are rated to seriously high temps (close to, or over, 100C), will throttle themselves based on thermals if they get to a certain threshold below that to try to keep temps low, and will even automatically shut the system down if they get too hot.
